Drunk drivers place other motorists at risk of car accidents

A recent Oklahoma car crash underscores the fact that drunk driving is a serious issue that can lead to life-altering consequences. A driver, allegedly drunk at the time, is said to have caused a fatal collision which left two other people injured. Drunk driving leads to an increased risk of car accidents for all other drivers and passengers on the road.

In this accident, the driver turned the wrong way down a street, causing the death of one individual. It is not known if the deceased was a pedestrian, passenger or driver of another vehicle. The drivers of two other vehicles suffered minor injuries as they attempted to avoid the wrong-way car. The Oklahoma driver believed responsible for the accident was arrested at the scene of the accident on suspicion of drunk driving.

It is unacceptable for an intoxicated individual gets behind the wheel of the car. Drunk drivers are often unable to make rational decisions, making mistakes that can have fatal consequences. These drivers may swerve, run through intersections and operate vehicles at erratic speeds. While this is behavior is reprehensible, victims of drunk driving accidents have legal rights. Those who were injured or those who lost a loved one to this behavior may seek a financial recovery by filing a civil claim.

When a person is harmed because of the reckless actions of another person, it is within his or her rights to seek restitution for emotional damages and financial losses. This is also the case for those who were impacted by the actions of a drunk driver. A case evaluation with a legal professional can determine what legal options are available to victims of car accidents.
