A 77-year-old woman was killed in a car accident in Nowata County, authorities reported. The Nov. 30 incident left the woman's husband in critical condition.
According to officials, the 77-year-old woman was a passenger in a pickup truck driven by her husband, also 77. Authorities reported that their truck crossed the centerline of Highway 60, just west of Nowata, and collided head-on with another pickup truck. It was not immediately ascertained why the man crossed into oncoming traffic.
Reportedly, the 77-year-old husband was hospitalized with internal injuries following the accident. The driver of the second pickup was a male teenager, authorities said. The 77-year-old driver was taken to a Tulsa hospital with internal injuries. Authorities indicated that he is in stable condition. There was a passenger in the second truck, and authorities reported that she was in stable condition after receiving treatment at an area hospital.
The 77-year-old man was extracted from the wrecked vehicle by Nowata firefighters. He reportedly received aerial transport to the Tulsa hospital. The cause of the accident is listed as driving left of center.
