Multiple vehicle crash kills 2 on US 259 in Oklahoma

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol have reported that two people lost their lives and several others suffered injuries in a collision involving three vehicles in McCurtain County on Nov. 15. Both of the deceased individuals and three of those injured were residents of Longview, Texas. The fatal car crash occurred at approximately 10:30 a.m. on U.S. Route 259 near Harris.

An OHP representative said that the accident occurred when a sedan containing five occupants travelling northbound on U.S. Route 259 crossed into the path on oncoming traffic. It was not immediately clear why the vehicle crossed the center line. The sedan struck the rear of one oncoming vehicle before striking a second oncoming vehicle head-on. The force of the collision was sufficient to propel the vehicle struck head-on from the roadway.

Emergency services personnel were confronted by multiple injuries when they arrived at the scene, and a helicopter was called in to transport three passengers in the sedan that had crossed the center line to a hospital in Texas for treatment. The driver of the sedan and one of its passengers, a 22-year-old man and a 16-year-old girl, were pronounced dead at the scene. The occupants of the vehicle struck head-on were also transported to hospital. The occupants of the vehicle hit in the rear escaped the accident without injury.

The emotional trauma of losing a loved one is often made even more difficult for grieving families to cope with when a sudden reduction in household income leads to severe financial difficulties. When a family's loss was caused by the actions of a distracted, reckless or impaired driver, a personal injury attorney may file a wrongful death lawsuit on their behalf. This type of litigation could seek damages for expenses such as medical costs and funeral bills as well as lost income and lost future earnings.
