Oklahoma dad sues teen's mother, others for wrongful death

An Oklahoma father is claiming that the drivers of two vehicles should be held liable for a collision that killed his 15-year-old son on that child's birthday. The man is also pursuing a wrongful death claim against Mitsubishi Motors. The accident in question occurred in June 2013, when the victim was killed in an accident in Tulsa.

Official reports show that the teen's mother was driving the vehicle in which he was riding. She told officers that her Mitsubishi vehicle stalled as she was traveling through an intersection. At that time, the driver of a pickup truck reportedly plowed through a red light, smashing into the victim's vehicle on the passenger side.

Interestingly, the father in this case has actually named the mother as a defendant in the civil case. The pair are presumably not married. The father is accusing the mother of playing a key role in the fatal accident, as she failed to obey traffic laws and did not follow accepted safety guidelines.

Further, the pickup truck driver is also accused of negligence because he did not operate his vehicle safely. It also appears that the pickup truck driver was inattentive and may have been speeding at the time of the fatal accident. Those claims have been filed in addition to allegations against Mitsubishi, which is accused of failing to adequately test and design a crash-worthy vehicle. That car allegedly was not structurally sound, and a side airbag was not included to protect against such impact.

Victims who have suffered the loss of a loved one in a fatal car crash caused by another party may be eligible for financial compensation. Those individuals may be able to recover damages for pain and suffering, loss of companionship and a variety of other claims. An Oklahoma attorney may provide additional information about clients' legal and financial options after a fatal car crash.
